Visit from Mrs Kate Lloyd-Jones – Foundation Governor – Expressive Arts
Thank you all so much for inviting me to judge the Eisteddfod art competition on Tuesday 11th March 2025. I was blown away by the creativity and imagination of every single pupil. Each piece of art was so beautiful and I can only imagine how much time and effort it took to create these. Everyone should be very proud of themselves. It was extremely difficult to decide the winners because everyone had done such amazing work. Well done to those of you who won but also well done to everyone because you all made such beautiful art!
Kind regards
Mrs Lloyd Jones
Welsh Monitoring Visit
On the afternoon of 23rd January I was invited to Ysgol yr Esgob in order to look at the varied ways in which the Welsh language is being used in the school.
I was welcomed warmly by Mrs Booth, who handed me over to the very capable hands of Criw Cymraeg.
This enthusiastic group of pupils – Charlie, Georgia and Delilah – went to great lengths to demonstrate how Welsh is being used at the school and how its use is constantly monitored and rewarded. Crew Cymraeg playing a prominent role in all of this.
I was very impressed with the bilingual displays in all areas of the school – both in classrooms and corridors. As a fluent Welsh speaker, it gave me great pleasure to see the extent of Welsh throughout the building. I also observed that there was a good selection of Welsh reading books for all age ranges. Pupils are also given opportunities throughout the year to participate in Welsh culture and language through numerous extra-curricular activities, e.g., trips to Cardiff, Nant B H, the Welsh Whisperer, School Eisteddfod, and numerous other activities.
Mrs Booth also showed me the use of Welsh in pupils’ workbooks as well as short videos of younger pupils conversing – very impressively – in the Welsh language.
Having read the most recent Estyn inspection report, I am not surprised at all that the inspection team’s observation of the Welsh language was very favourable.
It is clear that the pupils will be very well equipped to move on confidently to formal Welsh lessons when they embark on their secondary education.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and wish to say that the Criw Cymraeg pupils were great ambassadors for the school – articulate, confident and very enthusiastic.
Thank you, also, to Mrs Booth for giving her time in showing me examples of pupil work. Diolch yn fawr.
Mrs Gwen Jones
Foundation Governor
